Any working mom knows the struggle is real — even if you’re totally committed to self-care and taking care of your own needs, most of the time the kids come first. And sometimes that means sacrificing leisurely meals at the table and hot cups of coffee to tend to the children’s needs.

Even A-list celebrities like Jessica Biel fall victim to this common problem. She and husband Justin Timberlake have a 4-year-old son, Silas Randall. Biel can afford a full-time nanny but instead prefers taking on most of the parenting responsibilities herself.

The busy mom even admitted that she often eats breakfast or other meals in the most unusual place.

Biel told Jimmy Fallon ‘This is just mom life’

During a 2017 appearance on The Tonight Show, Biel admitted to host Jimmy Fallon that she’s sometimes so busy with her son that she only gets a chance to feed herself while simultaneously taking a shower.

“This is just mom life,” she told Fallon. “I do not have time. I don’t have time for anything. I’m feeding him [Silas] in the morning, trying to get ready and I realize I haven’t eaten, I just take it into the shower.”

She even tried to convince Fallon to give the routine try. “It’s great. Honestly, you should try it,” she quipped. “Sometimes it’s a huge success, sometimes it’s a huge failure.”

We’re guessing soft bread and excess moisture don’t mix?

She snacks of Silas’s plate at lunch time

It’s not just breakfast that Biel struggles with. The Total Recall actress admitted that even at lunchtime, she isn’t above eating small scraps of food off her son’s plate when the opportunity arises.

“I’m the human vacuum cleaner at the end of the meal!” she said during an interview with People. “That is what happens when you are a mom or a dad. You make food, they eat what they eat, and you literally — as they are running off trying to grab something — you are shoveling the last few bites off of their plate.”

Biel admits she never knew how motherhood would change her

Between the shower meals and human vacuum cleaner status, does Biel ever wish she had more time for herself? Probably. But she did call parenting a worthwhile experience.

“Honestly, I didn’t grow up dreaming about having kids and having a family,” she revealed on a Reddit AMA. “I was so focused on my career and so focused on my selfish existence … but I think meeting my husband inspired me. One day I just woke up and knew it’s what I wanted to do and it’s been the hardest, greatest thing ever and I wouldn’t give it up for the world.”

And she also called parenting a humbling experience for anyone. “You think you’re a selfless person, and then you realize you’re not,” she told Marie Claire “These little people come around, and they require so much, and your schedule is really not your own, nor is it important anymore, and it’s very clear that it’s your life now revolving around this dude.”

Sometimes that means scrambled eggs in the shower, and that’s OK!
